December 19, 2017 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by President Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Chuck Novak, Roger Ward, Jim Shaver, Kevin Lilly and George Laverick. Several members were also present.
Reading of the minutes was waived.
The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward. Current membership as of the meeting is 349 (correction: s/b 350).
Jim Shaver reported that a lot of old target backers are being left on the range by shooters. These blow about and get wet , and in general, create an unsightly mess. Shooters are reminded that you need to clean up your area when you are done shooting.
No change to the status of the Club's firearms.
Hired Help: Jim Samsel was to contact a lawyer about the implications of using hired help at the range. Jim spoke to the President of his HOA. The issue is liability if a worker is injured. Using a business that has its own business license and insurance protects the club.
Erosion: Chuck Novak and Joe Ormond (civil engineer) visited the range during a rain event. They feel that the erosion problem near the 77 meter berm can be corrected by building a shallow berm to redirect the water and adding some loose stone to the gully to slow down the water flow.
Utilities/Security: Chuck Novak presented a proposal for extending utilities (electric and water) down to the rifle range, and a coverage study for security cameras. The estimated cost of the utility work is $6700 (does not include the security cameras). The utilities proposal was approved unanimously.
Range Pictures: Jim Samsel reported that he has reviewed the range pictures, and while there are some activities that appear questionable, it is difficult with the current camera setup to determine exactly what is happening.
RSO Program: A member inquired about the RSO program. It was agreed that an RSO training session needs to be held. George Laverick agreed to schedule a training day and notify all members so they can indicate their interest in participating. Chuck Novak volunteered to attend CRSO training so that the club would have two qualified trainers. The Executive Committee agreed to reimburse Chuck for the expense.
Elections: Election of Officers will be held at the January 2018 meeting. Candidates for 2018 Executive Committee are as follows:
President: Jim Samsel
Vice President: Chuck Novak
Secretary: George Laverick
Treasurer: Roger Ward
Armorer: Kevin Lilly
Executive Officer: Rick Fowler
Absentee ballots will be emailed in early January for members unable to attend the Annual Meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:02PM.
The Annual Meeting and next Executive Committee meeting will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC. All members are encouraged to attend.
