October 24, 2017 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:06PM by President Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Chuck Novak, Roger Ward, Kevin Lilly and George Laverick. One member was also present.

The minutes of the September 26, 2017 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward. Current membership as of the meeting is 335.

Old Business

Gator: George Laverick has gone to the John Deere dealer in Aiken. They have ordered gaskets for him. Hopefully they are the correct ones. (Note: the gator is running, but has a couple issues. There is apparently a wiring problem in the circuit for the dump box, and the left headlight exploded (it shot glass about 15 feet).)

Ops 3 Revision: George Laverick proposed that the following wording be added to the end of General Range Rule OPS 3:

A designated Range Officer must have actual control over both the "normal" firing line and all personnel forward of the "normal" firing line at all times.

The proposal was approved.

Range Committee Proposals: Chuck Novak has been unable to contact Joe Ormond to have him look at the erosion issues. Chuck will continue to try to contact him.

New Business

Small Bore Rifle Silhouette Matches: Dennis Eidson submitted the match schedule for 2018. Matches will continue to be held on the second Saturday of each month.

Range Safety: Several pictures from the pistol range camera show people running toward the firing line with gun in hand pointing toward the firing line. Some pictures also showed shooters near the berm shooting at steel plates while others were down range. This not only violates our range rules, but also IDPA rules (it appeared they were simulating an IDPA match).

Left Pistol Range Rental: George Laverick reported that Kate Bailey had contacted him about renting the left pistol range for classes. She had previously taught at The Gun Rack, but they have gone out of business. George quoted her $10 per student per half day, which is what we have traditionally charged members who teach classes as a business. Jim Samsel recommended that she could hand out membership applications to her students. We would then give a 10 percent discount on first year dues if they join the club.

New Member: George Laverick presented one new member application. It was approved.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:34PM.

Member Obituary: James Legg passed away on November 15, 2017 from cancer. He was the owner of Carolina Bay Shooting Center on Whiskey Road in Aiken.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC. All members are welcome to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

George Laverick
