April 25, 2017 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by President Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Jim Shaver, Roger Ward, Kevin Lilly and George Laverick. Several members were also present.
The minutes of the March 28, 2017 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.
The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward. Current membership is 321.
The range report was given by Jim Shaver. The range has been mowed and weed whacked. Heavy rains have caused some erosion on the road and the far right hand side of the rifle range as well as the right end of the 88 meter berm. A concern was expressed that 5.7x28 casings were found on the right pistol range, and it was thought this violated the ban on center fire rifles on that range. However, George Laverick pointed out that the 5.7x28 is actually a pistol cartridge with ballistics similar to .22 WMR. It is therefore allowed on the right pistol range by our rules (although it should probably not be used on steel targets). Jim Shaver commented on a target stand found on the rifle range that could not meet the "hit the berm" requirement. George Laverick will send out a picture to all members pointing out the problem. George Laverick reported that on April 24th he found a large number of .22 casings on the concrete at the right side of the left pistol range, and on the right pistol range there was a pile of aluminum .45 casing just behind the concrete in the parking area. Both of these say we have members who do not care enough to clean up properly when they are done.
The Armorer's report was given by Kevin Lilly. There is no change to the status of the Club's firearms.
NJROTC: Jim Samsel did get in touch with the instructor at Aiken High School who indicated that they would appreciate any support we could give them. The Executive Committee voted to contribute $250 to the Aiken High School NJROTC.
Range Mowing: Stone's Yard Cleaning and Maintenance mowed and weed whacked the range for $187., but they want to increase the price to $360 for future work. The Club originally suggested once a month, but the contractor recommends every 2 to 3 weeks. Stone's will do the range again mid-May, but the Club would be interested in receiving quotes from other lawn care businesses. If you know anyone in that business have them get in touch with either the Executive Officer or the Secretary.
Rule Summaries: Jim Shaver proposed placing a copy of "significant" rules for each range inside the log book binder located on that range. A discussion ensued resulting in some changes to the wording.
The next Executive Committee meeting will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC. All members are welcome to attend.
