January 24, 2017 Annual Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The Annual Meeting was called to order by President Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Chuck Novak, George Laverick, Roger Ward, Jim Shaver, and Kevin Lilly. Several members were also present.

Annual Meeting

The number of members present did not constitute a quorum for conduct of business. However, per our bylaws votes cast by email on a specific issue can be counted as quorum for that issue. Under that rule, election of officers for 2017 proceeded with the following result:

President: Jim Samsel

Vice President: Chuck Novak

Secretary: George Laverick

Treasurer: Roger Ward

Executive Officer: Jim Shaver

Armorer: Kevin Lilly

The Annual Meeting was then adjourned and the Executive Committee meeting was called to order by President Jim Samsel.

The minutes of the December 20, 2016 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward. George Laverick reported that the current paid up 2017 membership was 287 as of the meeting.

Armorer's Report

The Armorer's report was given by Kevin Lilly. There is no change to the status of the Club's firearms.

Range Report

The range report was given by Jim Shaver. The range is in over all good condition. The rifle range shed has been completed and a silhouette match was held on the weekend preceding the meeting. There was some erosion damage to the new rifle range from the recent heavy rains. Ram Land Clearing is going to quote remedial work to correct this and prevent future damage. The range is open for the present, but will have to be closed again whenever the contractor is working. Additional work being quoted is to re-grade the road and rifle range parking area and to spread "crush and run" on the graded areas and to install rain gutters and drains on the rifle range and right pistol range sheds.

Members should not attempt to drive vehicles on the rifle range. It will damage the range and you would probably get stuck.

As of the meeting, the gate is not working. It appears that someone attempted to force the gate open and damage the opener arm. George Laverick is trying to determine how to fix it. (NOTE: The gate has been repaired and is now operational).

Old Business

Dumpster: Roger Ward reported that we have received renewal notice for our dumpster contract. He expressed concern whether or not there is any issue with what we put in our dumpster. Roger Ward will check with Tyler Sanitation.

Girl-With-A-Gun: We received a proposed schedule from the Girl-With-A-Gun group, but they did not include a "shoot plan". We need to get back to them with a request for more information. Jim Samsel will follow-up.

NJROTC: Jim Samsel will contact the NJROTC instructor at Aiken High School and invite him to attend one of our meetings.

New Business

Rifle Racks/ Target Stands : Dennis Eidson presented plans for building new rifle racks for the rifle range and targets and target stands for the silhouette match. The Executive Committee authorized Dennis to spend up to $1500 for the project.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:10PM. After the meeting, a general discussion of club issues was held with the members present.

One of the members suggested that a line be painted several feet behind each firing line and that everyone be required to be behind the line whenever the range is cold. He also suggested that important safety rules be posted at each range in large enough lettering that they are easy to read.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC. All members are welcome to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

George Laverick
