Dec. 20, 2016 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Chuck Noval, George Laverick, Roger ward, Jim Shaver, and Kevin Lilly. Several members were also present.

Minutes

The minutes of the November 21, 2016 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward. George Laverick reported that almost half the members have not yet renewed, and a significant number of members have contacted him saying they never received the renewal notice (even though it has been sent out several times). A discussion was held about problems with email. The most likely problem is that a SPAM filter either at the member's email client or at his email provide is blocking emails. Unfortunately, the Club has no way to prevent this.

Armorer's Report

The Armorer's report was given by Kevin Lilly. There is no change to the status of the Club's firearms.

Range Report

The range is in very good condition. Someone has been shooting at the steel silhouette on the right pistol range from about 20 feet. This is extremely dangerous. Currently, the discussion of General Range Rule 8.3 recommends shooting at steel targets from no closer than 15 yards. George Laverick will draft changes to rule 8.3 to make a safe distance mandatory rather than "recommended".

A work day was held to clean up debris around the range including pipe and a fallen tree. Target stands were installed on the new rifle range and steel targets were placed on the right pistol range. Water has been turned off and the system drained for the winter.

Old Business

Range: We are waiting for completion of the rifle range firing line shelter. The concrete has been poured. Because of a grading issue, the ramp into the tractor storage area and the handicap range were not installed and will have to be done at some later time. The members will be notified that the range will be open except that no shooting on the rifle range whenever contractors are present.

There are some drainage issues on the new rifle range. Ram Land Clearing will address the issues.

Fence: The damaged fence on Old Chalk Bed Rd. has been repaired and a service gate installed. A lock and chain are needed to secure the gate (Note: the lock and chain were installed on 1/6/2017). The burned trees have also been removed.

Driveway: Ram has given us a quote to regrade and put gravel on the driveway. The quote appears to be reasonable but no action will be taken until a better defined scope of work is developed.

New Business

Elections: No nominations have been received from the membership for 2017 officers, and all current officers have agreed to run again. Therefore, the ballot for 2017 will read as follows:

President: Jim Samsel

Vice President: Chuck Novak

Secretary: George Laverick

Treasurer: Roger Ward

Armorer: Kevin Lilly

Executive Officer: Jim Shaver

The Annual Meeting and Election of Officers is January 24, 2017.

Ballots will be emailed to members the week of January 9, 2017. Even though there is only one candidate for each office, it is very important that every member casts their vote. Otherwise, we end up in a "limbo" situation and have to call a second Annual Meeting. NOTE: Members who have not renewed for 2017 will not be permitted to vote.

.22 Rifle Cases: Kevin Lilly and Chuck Novak propose building some storage/transport boxes for the .22 rifles. Estimated cost is about $200. This can be done out of the Armorer's budget.

Rear Fence: Consensus was reached to delay any work on the rear fence until we are sure that all expenses resulting from construction of the new rifle range including future maintenance costs have been fully accounted for.

Steel Targets: A long discussion was held about steel targets, especially on the pistol ranges. George Laverick will prepare draft changes to the General Range Rules for review to better define the rules applicable to steel targets.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:08PM.

Th Annual Meeting/Election of Officers and Executive Committee meeting will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC. All members are urged to attend.

(If you can't attend, be sure to submit your vote by email before the meeting.)

Respectfully submitted,

George Laverick

Secretary
