Oct. 25, 2016 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Chuck Novak, George Laverick, Roger ward, Jim Shaver, and Kevin Lilly. Three members and three guests were also present.

The minutes of the September 27, 2016 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward.

Armorer's Report

The Armorer's report was given by Kevin Lilly. There is no change to the status of the Club's firearms.

Range Report

Jim shaver gave the range report. The ranges are mostly clean and orderly except that weeds still need to be dealt with. .270 rifle casings were found on the right pistol range. Center fire rifles are not permitted on the right pistol range.

New Business (As a courtesy to guests, new business was handles out of normal sequence)

A Girl and A Gun: Three representatives of an organization known as "A Girl and a Gun" presented a request to use our ranges at some future date for one or more events. They were questioned about safety issues, and whether or not they would be charging participants and whether or not participants had to be members of their organization. It was decided they should return at a later meeting with more specific details so that the Executive Committee could determine whether or not to allow the use as a "charitable event" or to charge for use of the range.

NJROTC: One of our members has requested that we consider donating to the NJROTC program at Aiken High School. At one time we donated to all of the NJROTC programs in Aiken County, but only one of the schools ever bothered to thank us so we decided that we are still willing to support them, but each school seeking support needs to request the support before we will consider it. Jim Samsel will contact the Commander of the NJROTC program at Aiken High School and invite him to attend our meeting and present his program and needs.

Range Work Day: A work day is needed to clean up debris from the rifle range firing line as well as other maintenance that need doing. Agreement was reached to schedule the work day for November 12 starting at 9:00AM.

[Secretary's note: The work day was held as scheduled and was very successful.]

Fence Repair: Jim Shaver suggested that, as part of repairing the fence where it was damaged by a car, we install a gate allowing us access to that portion of the property. After discussion, it was decided to put a 16 foot double gate in. Jim Shaver will get a price from Ram to do the work.

Old Business

Rifle Range Extension: The rifle range shelter material should be ready for delivery in the very near future. Jim Shaver will contact Ram and make sure that the pad area will be ready for shelter construction.

[Secretary's note: The rangeprepartion was completed on 11/18/2016. Shelter construction will probably start the week after Thanksgiving.]

Range Committee Meeting: A range Committee meeting is scheduled for November 8 to discuss permanent target facilities at the range.

Gate Programming: When the installer originally programmed the gate, there were supposed to be two groups of keycards, one for officers allowing "anytime" access, and one for the members allowing only "daytime" access. George Laverick discovered that they apparently missed a step so that anyone could go in at any time. He will correct this in the near future. George Laverick will also determine what is necessary to repair the sensor post that was damaged by the contractor.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10PM.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be at 7:00PM on November 22 , 2016 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC.

Respectfully submitted,

George Laverick

The ranges reopened (with limitations) on November 18, 2016. They will probably have to be closed again for one or two weeks after Thanksgiving to allow for construction of the new firing line shelter at the rifle range.
