May 24, 2016 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Chuck Novak, George Laverick, Kevin Lilly, Jim Shaver, and Roger Ward. Several members were present in addition to the officers.
The minutes of the April 26,2016 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.
The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward.
Kevin Lilly reported no changes to the status of the Club's firearms.
Jim Shaver reported that, in general, the range is clean and orderly, but there have been several reports of members not picking up their brass. Also, the brass bucket is FOR BRASS ONLY; there has been a lot of steel and aluminum cases thrown in the bucket. Steel, aluminum and shotgun hulls are to be thrown in the trash. The range committee met on 5/10. A sub-committee is looking at new steel targets. George Laverick reported that the gate is reporting multiple entries for each single entry. George will try to correct the problem on Thursday.
200 Yard range/fence: We now have a contract with Ram Land Improvement for the clearing for both the 200 yard range and the fence. Work is expected to begin either 5/30 or 5/31 and should take 2 to 3 weeks to complete. The range will be closed during the week for construction. Jim shaver will put "Range Closed" signs up, and George Laverick will disable the gate.
Indoor Range: Roger Ward will issue a check payable to the city for our rent, and Jim Samsel will deliver it to Lt. Mahoney.
Fence Signs: George Laverick has purchased signs and UV resistant cable ties to place on our fence. Holes need to be drilled in the signs for mounting.
Work Day: The range work day is tabled until construction work is completed, then it will be re-scheduled.
RSO Hats: One of our members has recommended that we buy RSO hats from the NRA for our Range Safety Officers. The committee voted to authorize George Laverick to buy 24 hats.
Range Distances: Dennis Eidson recommended that we change our range distance measurements from yards to meters to comply with standard competition rules. Jim shaver suggested coordinating this with the installation of intermediate berms and re-alignment of the rifle range firing line.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:10PM.
The next Executive Committee meeting will be at 6:30PM on June 28, 2016 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC.
Five new Range Safety Officers were certified on June 4, 2016.
The current phase of construction has been completed so normal range operating hours are in effect. Also, the EXIT sensor which had failed has been replace so the gate is operational again.
