January 24, 2016 Annual Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Joe Podesta, George Laverick, Kevin Lilly, and Roger Ward. Several members were present in addition to the officers.

Votes were counted for the election of officers for 2016. With votes cast by email, there were adequate votes to constitute a quorum. Officers for 2016 are:

President: Jim Samsel

Vice President: Joe Podesta

Secretary: George Laverick

Treasurer: Roger Ward

Armorer: Kevin Lilly

Executive Office: Jim Shaver

There were not enough members physically present to constitute a quorum so no further business could be conducted. The Annual Meeting was adjourned.

The minutes of the December 27, 2015 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward.

Range Report

Jim Shaver reported that construction on the plate rack baffle is almost complete. He stated that he hopes to put together a committee to explore ways that the range could be improved.

Armorer's Report

Kevin Lilly reported no changes to the status of the Club's firearms.

Old Business

Fence: Jim Samsel and Jim Shaver have marked the path of the proposed fence with orange flags. Jim Samsel was asked to re-contact the Jacksons about buying a small strip of land along the back edge of our property since this would substatially reduce the cost of the fence.

Rake: The rake falls under the responsibilities of the Executive Officer so the member suggesting the rake will get together with Jim Shaver to identify what is needed.

Plate Rack: George Laverick reported that the frame and cross pieces are in place. All that is needed now is to put railroad ties in front of the supports to protect them from being shot up. That work is scheduled for Saturday, January 30.

Extending Rifle Range: John Hefentreyer pointed out that extending the rifle range was high on members' wants in the survey taken two years ago, and asked what is the "hold-up".

New Business

Membership Status: George Laverick reported on the membership status as of the meeting date:

 Total Membership: 341

 Members renewed for 2016 261

 Life Members 3

 Members needing to renew 75

 New Member Applications received 7

(As of February 1, 2016, renewals are no longer accepted. The membership as of the writing of these minutes is 278. A number of New Member Applications are pending.)

A discussion was held about how the growth of the club has affected our ability to conduct business with the entire membership.

.17 HMR: George Laverick stated that a member at the range had asked him about the use of .17 HMR rimfire rifles. Per our General Range Rules, they are permitted on the pistol ranges (including the right pistol range), but may NOT be used against steel targets.

By the rules of the Small Bore Rifle Match, they are not permitted in that match.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

A discussion of various range projects was held. Members are encouraged to come to the Executive Committee with plans for range improvement. If people are willing to participate, the club will fund good projects.

We would still like to get IDPA matches going, but we need volunteers (preferably younger members) who would be willing to assist in setting up and running the matches. If you are willing to help, please contact Jim Detwiler ( or the Club Secretary.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be at 7:00PM on February 28, 2016 at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Drive, Aiken, SC.

Respectfully submitted,

George Laverick
