Dec. 27, 2015 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Joe Podesta, George Laverick, and Roger Ward. Several members were present in addition to the officers.

Minutes

The minutes of the November 22, 2015 Executive Committee meeting were read by George Laverick and were accepted as read with corrections.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward.

Armorer's Report

The Armorer was not present, but Jim Samel reported that he has all of the M1 Garands and Kevin Lilly has all of the .22s. No other changer to the status of the Club's firearms.

Range Report

The Executive Officer was not present. Jim Shaver and Jim Samsel both reported evidence of violations of the General Range Rules. Center Fire rifle cartridges were found on the right pistol range, and someone has obviously been shooting at targets on the ground on the pistol ranges.

These are both serious safety violations. When the member(s) responsible are identified, they can expect to have their membership(s) terminated!

Old Business

Plate Rack: George Laverick has all of the materials for the two end frames. As soon as he is ready for the installation, he and Roger Ward will pick up the remaining materials. George will then send an email to the members letting them know the planned schedule so that any members willing to help erect the baffle can participate.

Rake: Last month a member suggested the club buy a rake for cleaning up brass in the dirt along the firing lines. The consensus of the committee is that the member needs to identify a suitable rake, and the Club will then buy it.

Fence: Roger Ward and George Laverick raised concerns about the proposed fence route down the driveway to the rifle range. Both feel there are problems putting the fence so close to the driveway and also the edge of the gully. George Laverick also suggested that a four foot high fence would be adequate, but that we need to put appropriate signs at intervals along the fence.

Rifle Range: Several members raised the issue of a longer rifle range. A discussion was held about extending the current rifle range to 200 yards (300 yards would come too close to the road). Although no formal decision was made, most members present seemed to favor extending the rifle range to 200 yards.

New Business

Membership Status: George Laverick reported on the membership status as of the meeting date:

 Total Membership: 342

 Members renewed for 2016 161

 Life Members 3*

 Members needing to renew 177**

 New Member Applications received 6

 * This was erroneously reported as 4 at the meeting.

** 5 additional renewals had been received but were being held as incomplete

These numbers represent a snapshot as of the the meeting date, and have changed since then.

Allowable Firearms: Jim Shaver raised the question about allowable firearms on the right pistol range. Carbines are specifically NOT allowed on the right right pistol range. Also, although short-barrel .223 and similar weapons may be called "pistols" by their manufacturers, but they use center fire rifle ammunition and are prohibited on the right pistol range.

Berms: Considerable erosion is evident on the pistol range berms. Chuck Novak volunteered to take his backhoe to the range the next time he takes the scouts to the range and build the berms back up. Use of cocoa mats and hydroseeding will help prevent erosion in the future.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:47.

We would still like to get IDPA matches going, but we need volunteers (preferably younger members) who would be willing to assist in setting up and running the matches. If you are willing to help, please contact Jim Detwiler (jimd@bellsouth.net) or the Club Secretary.

If you have not renewed your membership, you are now OVERDUE, and your keycard will be disabled. You have until January 31 to reinstate your membership. After that, it will be permanently terminated.

The Annual Meeting of ALL members will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 7:00PM at the ADPS Indoor Range at 7:00PM. Although ballots for email voting will be emailed to members shortly, all members are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting and voice your opinions on the Club's goals and operation.

Respectfully submitted,

George Laverick

Secretary
