January 26, 2014 Annual Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Joe Podesta, George Laverick, Roger Ward, Kevin Lilly, and David Nichols.

19 members were present in addition to the officers.

There was a quorum of voters for the election of officers based on email votes submitted and members physically present. The current officers were re-elected to serve for 2014.

There were insufficient members physically present to conduct any further business at the Annual Meeting. Therefore, the Annual Meeting was adjourned, and the Executive Committee meeting was called to order.

On vote of the Executive Committee, reading of the minutes of the last meeting was dispensed with.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurers report was given by Roger Ward.

Range Report

David Nichols reported that he had painted some of the new target stands and would put a few out on each pistol range along with stakes to support target backers. He also hauled off two truckloads of trash. The well head cracked during the freezing weather early in January. The well has been turned off, but no attempt to repair the well head will be made until warmer weather.

Armorers Report

Kevin Lilly reported that there is no change to the status of the club's rifles. Jim Samsel reported that two of the club M1s havefeeding problems (noted during noise tests). Jim believes it to be either a gas check or op-rod issue.

Range Committee

Joe Podesta reported that a noise test to be conducted with the participation of the concerned neighbor was not held because the neighbor did not respond to a request to schedule the test, even though he had requested it.

Old Business

There has been no formal response from the City of Aiken to our proposals for changes in the agreement covering use of the ADPS indoor range. Unofficially, the ADPS Training Officer has indicated that there should be no problem. Jim Samsel will follow up with the City before the next meeting.

New Business

George Laverick reported that he visited the range the day before the meeting, and that he had observed a large number of shotgun shells (12ga) on the right hand pistol range directly in front of the plate rack. Members are reminded that shotgun are NEVER permitted on the right pistol range, and that in no case would they ever be allowed to use them against the plate rack.

Jim Samsel reported that he has spoken with Forest Service personnel, and that they are interested in renting our range for one-half day twice a year for their training.

We would charge them $150 per half-day.

At the request of one of the members, each officer identified themselves to the members present.

A question and answer session about the ranges and the club in general was held with the members present following the business portion of the meeting.

The February Executive Committee meeting will be held February 23, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the ADPS Indoor Range, 240 Dupont Dr., Aiken.

The FONRA banquet will be held at the Aiken Shrine Club on April 24, 2014. Contact Kevin Lilly ( if interested.
