September 22, 2013 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Joe Podesta, George Laverick, David Nichols, and Roger Ward.

Minutes

Minutes of the June 24, 2013 meeting were read by George Laverick, and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward.

Range Report

David Nichols reported that he had observed the gate stays open a very long time. (It is set to 30 seconds).

Armorer's Report

There is no change to the status of the club's rifles.

Range Committee

Currently, test firing with sound equipment to measure the noise levels on the old and new ranges is scheduled for 9/29/2013. 5 shooters are needed to shoot the club Garands (about 20 rounds each). Berms needed for projectile protection on both sides of the range would help reduce noise levels. These cannot be dirt berms because the width of the base would be too great. The goal is to reduce the noise level on the 300 yard range to be no greater than that currently on the 100 yard range. A general discussion was held on the subject.

Old Business

The target stands are built, but need to be marked as club property. Also, a demo stand needs to be set up showing the minimum height of targets.

New Business

A meeting was held with ADPS to discuss our usage of the indoor range. We are actually shooting a lot more rounds than the City. There is concern because of the cost to the City to clean up the rubber material used to trap the lead. We have agreed to reduce our usage to one night a week and to pay $600 per year toward the maintenance. The club will also sell recovered brass and refund the money to the city.

The City has agreed that we could hold four “special events” each year. Jim suggested that they be CWP refresher courses for members.

George Laverick moved that we buy 5 boxes of M1 ammo from David Nichols for $30 per box (to be used for noise level testing). Seconded and approved.

Joe Podesta moved that the meeting be adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 8:18 PM.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be sunday, October 27, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the ADPS indoor range.

Respectfully,

George Laverick

Secretary

NOTICE: The “stay open” time of the gate will be changed on Tuesday, 10/22/2013, from 30 seconds to about 20 seconds. Make sure you do not loiter in the gate opening!
