July 22, 2012 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel at 7:00 PM. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Joe Podesta, Roger Ward, George Laverick, and Kevin Lilly. Several members and guests were also present.

Minutes of the June 24, 2012 meeting were read by George Laverick, and were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's report was given by Roger Ward. The club is in good financial shape. Members wishing detailed information should contact the Treasurer directly. There are currently 206 active members.

Armorer's Report

Kevin Lilly reported that one M1 has been returned. Joe Podesta said he has one to turn in now. Joe also presented the club with some ammunition clips for the M1s. Kevin will contact the remaining members who have M1s checked out and get those returned.

Range Report

No range report was given since the Executive Officer was not present. John Heffentreyer stated that he was as the range on Friday; there were threee bags of trash sitting on the left pistol range and all of the trash bins were full. George Laverick will visit the range on Tuesday, July 24, to check its condition and remove the trash.

Secretary's Note: I visited the range as planned. I removed 10 large bags (55 gallon) of trash and took them to the recycling center. The grass needs mowed on the rifle range.

Old Business

The club is still in need of an Executive Officer and a Chairman for the Rifle Range Extension Committee. Joe Podesta agreed to head up the Rifle Range Expansion Committee.

Until someone steps forward and agrees to become the Executive Officer, members are going to have to do much more to keep the range in good condition. Members are asked to not leave their trash at the range but take it home with them. Also, if the trash bins are full, please empty them, and take the trash to a recycling center (the one on Old Chalk Bed Rd. is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). Two spare bags have been left in each trash container draped over the sides of the inner sleeve; if they have already been used, please contact the club Secretary and we will get them replaced..

If the members do not step up and keep the range clean and in usable condition, we will have no choice but to close the range until a new Executive Officer can be found.

For those of you who might consider becoming the Executive Officer, but hesitate for fear of the amount of work: It is not necessary to do all of the work yourself. The Executive Committee is perfectly willing to hire people to do the actual work. What we need is someone to MANAGE the work.

The Executive Committee voted to authorize the President to hire someone to work three hours twice per month at $20 per hour to do maintenance tasks such as mowing, etc., until a new Executive Officer is appointed.

The updated liability policy has been received from the NRA's insurer, and the Treasurer has written a check to the City of Aiken for the $100 annual usage fee. Henry Krippner will deliver the check and insurance policy to ADPS on Monday, July 23. ADPS will then schedule a Range Officer briefing before we can restart using the indoor range. We currently have three members identified who meet the City's requirements for a Range Officer (NRA certified or Active/Retired Law Enforcement). More qualified Range Officers are needed. The Range Officers will maintain a listing of members who sign the City's Release Form and will carry it with them when they open the range.

New Business

George Laverick presented proposed changes to the Membership Renewal Form (for 2013 which will be sent out at the end of November) and the New Member Application. The primary change is to add a line indicating if the member/applicant is entitled to the law enforcement discount and the name of the applicable agency. A motion was passed to accept the changes.

Two applicants for membership were present at the meeting. Both applications were accepted.

A discussion was held about how to administer the 250 member cap when we reach that point. No action was taken.

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Joe Podesta.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7:00 PM, August 26, 2012 at Harbor Chase.
