April 22, 2012 Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jim Samsel at 7:00 PM. Officers present were Jim Samsel, Joe Podesta,Roger Ward, Tom Moore, George Laverick, and Kevin Lilly. Several members and guests were also present.

Minutes of the March 25, 2012 meeting were read by George Laverick, and were accepted as read. A question was raised by a member about what parts were needed to repair the .22 rifles and was answered by Jim Samsel.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurers report was given by Roger Ward. Members wishing to know details of the club finances may contact the Treasurer directly. As of the meeting, their were 191 members.

Armorer's Report

Kevin Lilly reported that there has been no change since last month.

Range Report

Tom Moore reported that the range is in good shape. He has removed trash and left wasp spray at both the pistol and rifle ranges. Grass needs cutting on the rifle range and the water needs to be turned on. He plans to do both in the coming week. Cutting of the grass on top of the pistol range berms needs to be scheduled. Jim Samsel has someone to do the cutting.

Old Business

We have no new information on use of the ADPS indoor range. Jim Samsel has tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with Henry Krippner. If we do get permission to use their range, we will also try to get the use of their meeting room as the permanent meeting place for the Executive Committee. George Laverick indicated that he would try to get in touch with Henry Krippner the following morning.

[Henry was contacted the following morning but had no additional information other than that the City's Insurance department was currently reviewing the request.]

Kevin Lilly made a motion that we recall the loaner rifles in June for re-evaluation, and that we change the sign out procedure to reflect there new valuations. Jim Samsel felt that we ought to require some training in order to check out one of the M1s since they do require some special handling techniques to prevent damage to the weapons. Roger Ward seconded the motion. Motion carried.

No further action has been taken on the rifle range extension. The Range Extension Committee is planning to visit the range on Sunday, April 29 to survey a possible route for the extension.

New Business

Possible locations for future meetings were discussed.

Roger has contacted the Disabled Amercan Veterans about the use of their building. It would be $125 for an evening meeting. Roger felt that it might be an advantage to have a meeting place that was not a “restaurant” since we might get a better turnout of member who just want to socialize with other members.

If we can get the meeting room at ADPS that would be ideal, but we still don't know if we can get it.

Odell Weeks Center has a room that is $25 for an evening meeting, but it is not open on Sunday evenings.

Diane Hill suggested the meeting room at Harbor Chase where her knitting guild meets on Sunday afternoons. Diane said she would check into Harbor Chase and the Hilton Garden Inn.

[Diane later reported that the Hilton had two meeting rooms that rent for $300 and $400 respectively].

Roger recommended that we remove the push-in steel plate stands and plates from the pistol ranges for safety reasons. People put them too low which causes bullets to impact the ground, not the berms, and the plates are not at controlled angles which can cause undesirable ricochets. The Executive Officer is authorized to remove them and put them in the Connex.

Three new members were accepted into the club.

Steve Hill was added to the Rifle Range Extension Committee.

Joe Podesta moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Kevin Lilly. The meeting was adjourned by Jim Samsel at 7:39.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be on May 27, 2012 (location TO BE ANNOUNCED).
